OU812(pronounced “Oh You Ate One Too”) is the eighthstudio albumbyAmericanhard rockbandVan Halen, released in 1988, and the second to feature vocalistSammy Hagar. Van Halen started work on the album in September 1987 and completed it in April 1988, just one month before its release.
Released in May 1988, OU812 is Van Halens eighth studio album and the second to feature Sammy Hagar as lead vocalist. Recorded at 5150 Studios in California and produced by Donn Landee and the band, the album showcases a shift toward more polished hard rock and melodic experimentation, blending synth textures with guitar-driven anthems.
The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and includes the hit singles When Its Love, Finish What Ya Started, and Black and Blue. The title OU812 was a tongue-in-cheek response to David Lee Roths solo album Eat Em and Smile, and reflects the bands playful attitude during the Hagar era.
