Here’s a fascinating piece of jazz history that captures one of the most pivotal moments in American music. The Nashville All-Stars’ “After The Riot At Newport” was recorded in the immediate aftermath of the infamous 1960 Newport Jazz Festival incident, when overcrowding and tensions led to actual riots that shut down the festival early. This album represents the musical response to that chaos a group of seasoned Nashville session musicians channeling their experiences into a remarkable blend of jazz sophistication and blues-rooted authenticity that could only have emerged from that specific time and place.
