Here’s a fascinating slice of mid-70s Canadian rock history that deserves more attention than it’s received. Ron Nigrini’s “Rich Things” emerged from Toronto’s vibrant music scene in 1976, pressed by Attic Records during their golden period when they were championing homegrown talent alongside their international releases. Nigrini, who had been kicking around the Toronto club circuit, crafted an album that perfectly captures that transitional moment when folk rock was evolving into something more polished and radio-friendly, yet retained the intimate songwriting sensibilities of the earlier movement. The production strikes that sweet spot between the rawer sounds of early 70s Canadian rock and the more sophisticated approach that would define the later part of the decade.
