Big Brothers debut release wasrushed into production and released on 7th February 2000, only seven weeks after thelabels inception.
Following the meteoric global success ofDefinitely Maybe(1994),Whats The Story
(Morning Glory?) (1995) andBe Here Now(1997), withStanding On The Shoulder Of GiantsOasis embraced a bold development in their sound. Noel Gallagher took a broader and moreexperimental approach to recording, resulting in a departure from their earlier soundstowards a modern psychedelic rock influenced record. This experimentation and richer sonicpalette was in part due to Noel taking more time to craft this record than he had previouslyenjoyed. New instruments and techniques were utilised, including drum loops, samples,electric sitar, Mellotron, synthesisers and backward guitars, all contributing to a progressionin Oasis output.
The bold new sounds were quickly embraced by Oasis fans, andStanding On The ShoulderOf Giantsreached No.1 in the UK Album Charts, selling over 310,000 copies in its first weekalone. It is now certified double platinum and has also sold in excess of 200,000 copies inthe US.
