Here’s a Canadian Motown pressing of Michael Masser’s “The Original Soundtrack Of Mahogany” from 1975, a soundtrack that represents one of the more sophisticated entries in Motown’s catalog during their mid-70s transition period. Masser, who had already established himself as a formidable composer and producer through his work with Diana Ross on “Touch Me in the Morning,” was given the reins to craft the musical landscape for this ambitious Berry Gordy-directed film. The result is a lush, orchestrated affair that bridges the gap between classic Motown soul and the emerging disco movement, anchored by what would become one of Diana Ross’s signature ballads, “Do You Know Where You’re Going To (Theme from Mahogany).”
