Here’s a stellar example of RCA’s Gold Seal reissue series doing what it does best – preserving legendary performances in outstanding sound quality. This coupling brings together two of the most celebrated violin concerto recordings of the stereo era: Heifetz’s blazing 1957 interpretation of the Tchaikovsky with Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony, paired with his equally commanding take on the Mendelssohn from 1959 with Charles Munch and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Both sessions were captured during RCA’s golden period of recording at Orchestra Hall and Symphony Hall respectively, when the label’s engineering team was at their absolute peak.
