Here’s a proper piece of British pub rock history Graham Parker’s sophomore effort on the original UK Vertigo pressing. Parker was one of those artists who should have been massive but somehow slipped through the cracks, despite having all the right ingredients: razor-sharp songwriting, a voice that could cut glass, and The Rumour backing him with the kind of tight, energetic playing that made you believe rock and roll still mattered. “Heat Treatment” captures Parker at his hungriest, channeling his frustrations with the music industry and life in general into songs that crackle with genuine emotion rather than manufactured angst. Tracks like “That’s What They All Say” and “Back Door Love” showcase his ability to blend Van Morrison’s mysticism with Elvis Costello’s wordplay no small feat considering this predates Costello’s debut by a year.
