The seven tracks showcase Coltrane’s classic quartet with McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones, including Bakai, Violets for Your Furs, Time Was, and I Hear a Rhapsody. Widely regarded as a landmark in Coltrane’s modal jazz period, the album blends intricate improvisation with spacious ballads. The recording was made at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, during 1962.
