Eclipse marks CANOs 1978 evolution into a more electric, rhythmdriven sound while retaining the collectives FrancoOntarian identity and multicomposer structure. The album blends folkrock, progressive elements, and worldmusic influences, with arrangements built around violin, flute, guitars, keyboards, and layered harmonies.

The material reflects contributions from Andr Paiement, Marcel Aymar, Rachel Paiement, David Burt, John Doerr, Wasyl Kohut, and Robert Dickson. Tracks such as Soleil mon chef and Cercles de la nuit highlight the groups melodic folk roots, while Ryshnychok introduces Ukrainian folk influences adapted by Kohut and the band. The longform Bienvenue 1984 closes the album with a more expansive, conceptual structure.
