Like many jazz musicians of his era, Joe Henderson fostered his talent at a young age, slowly accruing accolades and hitting significant milestones. In high school, he was already composing for his schools band. Not long afterward, he jumped from his high school stage to the stages of Detroit. Enlisting in the U.S. Army, Henderson embarked on a world tour, playing for soldiers across the globe. In 1964, Henderson joined pianist Horace Silver as part of a quintet on the latters iconic albumSong For My Father, where Henderson provided an awe-inspiring solo for the titular song, quickly launching him into fame.

In 1980, nearly 15 years after leaving Horace Silvers band, Henderson tapped Chick Corea (piano), Ron Carter (bass) and Billy Higgins (drums) for the albumMirror, Mirror. Swinging between silky smooth melodies shared by each player, and fierce, pointed solos,Mirror, Mirrorcaptures the culmination of the bands shared talent.
