Released on Danzigs Plan 9 Records label in December 1983two months after his final concert with the bandthe album was noticeably harder and faster than the Misfits earlier releases, showcasing a stronger hardcore punk sound, and has often been referred to simply as Earth A.D. by fans. Originally issued as a 9-song LP, it was later reissued with three tracks from the Die, Die My Darling EP added to the track list: Die, Die My Darling, Mommy, Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight?, and We Bite. Danzig later said that the tracks Bloodfeast and Death Comes Ripping were originally intended for the first release by his later band Samhain, but were added to what became the Misfits final record in a last-ditch effort to save the band. The albums influence continued in later years, with Metallica covering Die, Die My Darling for their 1998 album Garage Inc. and previously recording Green Hell on The $5.98 E.P. Garage Days ReRevisited, while British extreme metal band Cradle of Filth covered Death Comes Ripping on their 1999 release From the Cradle to Enslave.
