Here’s a pressing that doesn’t surface in collections as often as you’d expect the Canadian Sire pressing of The Pretenders’ explosive 1980 debut. While most collectors chase after the UK Real or US pressings, this Canadian variant offers the same stellar mastering quality with a distinctive pressing plant signature that gives it a slightly warmer low-end presence. Chrissie Hynde’s razor-sharp vocals on tracks like “Brass in Pocket” and “Kid” retain all their bite, while James Honeyman-Scott’s guitar work sparkles with that crystalline tone that made this album an instant classic. The Canadian plant’s pressing technique during this era was particularly well-suited to capturing the album’s dynamic range, from the punchy aggression of “The Wait” to the more nuanced moments like “Stop Your Sobbing.”
