Here’s a pressing that doesn’t surface very often in the bins the Canadian Columbia issue of James Taylor’s “Flag” from 1979. This was Taylor’s first album after leaving Warner Bros. for Columbia, marking a significant shift in his career as he moved toward a more polished, radio-friendly sound. The album came at an interesting crossroads for Taylor, who was dealing with personal struggles while simultaneously achieving some of his biggest commercial success. “Flag” spawned the hit “Up on the Roof,” his memorable take on the Goffin-King classic, and showcased his evolution from the introspective troubadour of the early ’70s into a more mature, commercially-minded artist.
