This album represents Checker at his commercial zenith, following the massive success of “The Twist” which had the rare distinction of hitting #1 twice on the Billboard Hot 100. The record showcases not just the title track but a full party’s worth of twist variations and dance numbers that defined early 60s youth culture. What many don’t realize is that Checker, born Ernest Evans, got his stage name from none other than Dick Clark’s wife, who thought he resembled a young Fats Domino.
