Here’s a pressing that doesn’t surface often in the wild – the New Zealand Elektra release of Bread’s “The Best Of Bread Volume Two” from 1974. While David Gates and company were crafting some of the most enduring soft rock anthems of the early ’70s, this compilation was assembling their later catalog gems alongside a few deeper cuts that didn’t make it onto the first volume. The New Zealand pressing is particularly noteworthy for collectors of Antipodean variants, as Elektra’s local manufacturing during this period often resulted in subtly different mastering characteristics compared to their US counterparts, typically with a slightly warmer midrange that complements Gates’ distinctive vocal style beautifully.
