Here’s a fascinating piece of early 80s Canadian jazz history that deserves more recognition among collectors. The All Star Swing Band’s “Swing Fever” represents a remarkable moment when traditional big band swing experienced a brief but passionate revival in Canada, predating the more widely documented neo-swing movement by over a decade. This ensemble brought together seasoned session musicians from Toronto’s thriving studio scene, many of whom had backed major touring acts throughout the 70s but rarely got the spotlight for their own artistry.
