The first vinyl pressing of “Baroque“ by Japanese composer and multi-instrumentalist Susumu Yokota is now available. Originally released in 2014 by United Sounds Of Blue, a subdivision of Frogman Records, the album was previously only available in CD format. Barcelona-based record label Modern Obscure Music is re-releasing “Baroque“ as a double LP and in digital format.
“Baroque“ stands as one of the most significant albums by Susumu Yokota under his original name, marking the first time it will be pressed on a double 12″ LP. Yokota, an eclectic and highly prolific electronic musician and composer from Japan, passed away in 2015 at the age of 54.
“There is always fear, rage, and ugliness existing behind beauty. I have been trying to express ki-do-ai-raku (the four emotions: joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness) through music. I would like to express even one’s hidden emotion with reality. It’s my eternal goal.” “Baroque“ is a clear example of this, offering a deep listening experience that encapsulates all these feelings in one record. Yokota’s music has influenced a generation of producers over the past two decades and continues to resonate today.
The Tokyo-based artist Susumu Yokota devoted his time and creative energy to achieving his goal of expressing the full range of human emotions through music. This dedication resulted in a vast discography that began with early acid house tracks in the 1990s and evolved over the next two decades to include deep house, Detroit-influenced techno, and a stunning run of ambient electronic albums. In his last decade, Yokota masterfully wove his various skills into a series of borderless electronic records.
